Sports leagues are designed to regulate rules and events of a specific sports type. A number of them have become well known to the general public. Some are so popular that are now synonymous with their sport.
British Horse Racing Authority
This organization is in charge of all the professional horse racing events which take place within the United Kingdom. They often change regulations of the sport so that equine safety is increased. This has occurred more in recent years due to media coverage of horse fatalities on the track. The most famous race regulated by the BHA is the Grand National which takes place every year. It attracts huge crowds and is watched by people all over the world.
Premier League
The hierarchy of British football teams is based on leagues. The lowest performing teams compete in lower leagues, with the very best ones playing in high leagues. The highest and most prestigious of these is the Premier League. Outside of the UK it is sometimes referred to as the English Premier League. 20 clubs are allowed into it. These can change depending on their performance. If a team does poorly they can be relegated out of the Premier League and moved to a lower one. Conversely, teams in lower leagues have the chance to be promoted if they manage to perform very well.
National Basketball Association
The NBA is in charge of North American men’s basketball. 30 teams compete within it from across the United States. It is widely considered to be the highest basketball league in the entire world. Television companies often compete in bidding wars for the rights to broadcast NBA games. Companies also invest millions of dollars in sponsorship campaigns. The NBA has released a series of successful video games. Real life athletes have provided their own likenesses and voices for these games.
